Timothy (lived c. 17—97 AD) was an early Christian evangelist and the Christian bishop of Ephesus. He was from the Lycaonian city of Lystra or Derbe in Asia Minor (modern-day Türkiye). The Apostle Paul met him during his second missionary journey, and he became Paul’s companion along with Silas. Paul was his mentor and recipient of two letters that became books in the New Testament, First and Second Timothy. Timothy was also with Paul during his stay in Ephesus. He is also recorded as co-authoring the New Testament books First Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians, and Philemon.
