In Greek: “Skene.”

In a theater, a scaena was the stage building behind the orchestra (stage). At first, it was a temporary structure of fabric, wood, or cloth hung with rope to display stage scenery. During Roman times, the scaena became a permanent, elaborately decorated stone building with several levels.
