Philip the Apostle (lived 1—80 AD) was one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. He features most prominently in the Gospel of John. In a non-biblical book called Acts of Philip, probably written by one of his contemporaries, Philip was in the city of Hierapolis (modern-day Pamukkale, Türkiye) when he was martyred by being crucified upside-down. Philip’s tomb remains in Hierapolis and can still be visited and seen today.
