Murat IV

Murat IV (lived 1612—1640, reigned 1623—1640) was the 17th Ottoman sultan. He was known for restoring the authority of the Ottoman State and for his brutality. A palace conspiracy brought him to power when he was 11 years old. His mother, Kösem Sultan, ruled the empire as his regent until Murat took absolute power in 1832.
