Murat III

Murat III (lived 1546—1595, reigned 1574—1595) was the 12th Ottoman sultan and the son of Sultan Selim II. His reign began by having his five younger brothers strangled to prevent any challenges to it. His reign was marked by numerous wars and defeats and by the influence of the harem, specifically by his mother and favorite concubine. His power was maintained by his grand vizier, Sokullu Mehmet Pasha.
