Mimar Sinan

Mimar Sinan (lived c. 1488—1588) was the chief architect, engineer, and mathematician for sultans Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murat III. He was responsible for more than 300 structures, including the Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul. His apprentices would later design the Sultan Ahmet Mosque in Istanbul. The word mimar means “architect.”
