Mesopotamia is an ancient West Asian region situated within the Tigris-Euphrates river system in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent. Today, it is known as Iraq and northeast Syria. However, in a broader sense, the region also includes parts of modern-day Turkey and Kuwait.
