Hermes was a Greek god who was the herald (messenger) of the other gods. He conducted human souls into the afterlife. Hermes was also the god of boundaries, roads, travelers, thieves, athletes, shepherds, commerce, humor, messaging, politics, and diplomacy. With his winged sandals, he could move quickly to and from the divine and human worlds. His Roman equivalent was Mercury.
