Hellenistic Period

The historical period between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 and the death of Cleopatra VII, the last descendent of the dynasty of Ptolemy, one of Alexander’s generals. It was followed by the emergence of the Roman Empire. During this period, the generals of Alexander the Great’s army divided the known world between themselves, and Greeks settled much of the conquered lands. This resulted in the export of Greek culture and language, and this is why the New Testament was written in Greek.
