Commodus (lived 31 August 161—31 December 192 AD, reigned summer 177—31 December 192 AD) was a Roman emperor and the son of Marcus Aurelius. He was 16 years old when he became emperor and showed little interest in ruling, leaving government affairs to his chamberlain and praetorian prefects. Because of internal intrigues and conspiracies, he became increasingly dictatorial and created a deific personality cult. He was assassinated in 192 AD by a wrestler in the bath who held him underwater.
