Basilica

Originally a large, rectangular, multi-purpose Roman public with a central hall, an apse on one end, and two aisles between seats. The basilica architectural plan later became the standard architectural plan for churches. Today, the word is often used to describe any ancient church, whether it actually followed the Roman architectural plan or not.
