Balkans

The Balkans is a geographical area in southeastern Europe with disputed boundaries, but it is generally accepted that it includes modern-day Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the European part of Türkiye, Romania, most of Serbia, large parts of Croatia, and southern parts of Slovenia. In the 19th century, the term “Balkan Peninsula” was used to define those parts of Europe that were provinces of the Ottoman Empire.
