Attis
« Back to Glossary Index
The mythical Phrygian and Greek god Attis was the consort of Cybele (Kybele), the mother goddess. According to the myth, Attis castrated himself, so his priests were eunuchs. His self-mutilation, death, and resurrection represent the fruits of the earth, which die in winter and rise again in the spring.
