Attalus II Philadelphus (reigned 159—138 BC) was the king of Pergamon (now called Bergama) and the Pergamene Kingdom on the Aegean Coast of Asia Minor (today’s Türkiye). Attalus II was an accomplished military commander and an ally of Rome. He was also the founder of Philadelphia (in today’s Alaşehir, in Manisa Province, Türkiye), which is mentioned in the Book of Revelation as one of the seven churches. He also founded Attalia (today’s Antalya, Türkiye).
