This article refers to the Roman province of Asia in Asia Minor, or modern-day Türkiye.
Asia was the first Roman province in Asia Minor, today’s Turkey. It was created after Attalus III, king of Pergamum, bequeathed his kingdom to the Romans when he died in 133 BC. It originally included the territories of Mysia, the Troad, Aeolis, Lydia, Ionia, and Caria. After its creation, its main cities included Pergamum, Smyrna, Sardis, Ephesus, Miletus, Halicarnassus, and Laodicea.
