Arius (lived 256—336 AD) was a Christian theologian declared a heretic at the First Council of Nicaea. He is the founder of Arianism.
Arianism is a Christian doctrine that is still considered by mainstream Christianity to be heretical. It holds that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by God the Father and that the Son of God didn’t always exist but was begotten or made before time by God the Father. Therefore, Jesus was not coeternal with God the Father but was separate and distinct from the Father and subordinate to him. This doctrine conflicted with theological doctrine about the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the nature of Christ.
