Ariarathes I of Cappadocia (lived c. 405–322 BC, reigned 340s–331 BC) was the last Achaemenid Persian satrap (governor) of the Persian province of Cappadocia. With the Persians, Ariarathes fought against the Macedonian (Greek) invasion of Asia Minor, led by Alexander the Great. After the Persian Empire fell to the Macedonians, Ariarathes continued his resistance and ruled Cappadocia until he was captured and executed by the Macedonians in 322. His reign was a precursor to the Kingdom of Cappadocia.
