Cyprus
An overall article about Cyprus.
On his first missionary journey, the Apostle Paul’s first stop was Salamis, on the east coast of Cyprus. His traveling companion, Barnabus, was a Jew from Salamis. Paul and Barnabus, and another companion, John Mark, traveled across Cyprus to Paphos on the west coast. The Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus had heard about Paul’s preaching and summoned him. Sergius Paulus’s advisor, Elymus, was disputing Paul’s message, so Paul blinded him temporarily. Amazed by this miracle, Sergius Paulus believed and was baptized. Later Paul, Barnabus and John Mark sailed to Perga, on the southern Mediterranean coast of Asia Minor, today’s Türkiye.
