Mithridatic Wars
« Back to Glossary Index
The Mithridatic Wars were three conflicts fought by the Roman Empire against the Kingdom of Pontus and its allies between 88 and 63 BC. Their name comes from the King of Pontus, Mithridates VI, an arch-enemy of Rome. The conflicts ended upon Mithridates’s death. After the wars, the victorious Romans annexed Pontus and Syria into the Roman Empire.
