Constantine V (lived 718—775, reigned 741—775) was a Byzantine emperor whose reign saw a consolidation of security from external threats. He was an able military leader who took advantage of a civil war in the Muslim world to make incursions on the Arab frontier and also for his repeated campaigns in the Balkans. He was also responsible for important military and administrative innovations and reforms. He was also an Iconoclast who forbade the veneration of icons.
