A harem is a domestic space reserved for the women of the house in a Muslim family. It may include a man’s wife or wives, their young male children, unmarried daughters and other female relatives, and their concubines. In Ottoman times, the harem was guarded by Eunuchs who, besides the Sultan, were the only males allowed to enter it.
