Suleiman I, also called Suleiman the Magnificent (lived 1494—1566, reigned 1520—1566), was the 10th and longest-reigning sultan of the Ottoman Empire. During his rule, the Ottoman Empire comprised over 25 million people and was at the peak of its economic, military, and political power. Under Suleiman’s rule, the Ottoman fleet also dominated the seas from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf.
