Hygieia was the Greek goddess of health, cleanliness, and hygiene. Her name is the source of the word “hygiene.” She is commonly called the daughter of Asclepius, the god of healing. While Asclepius is associated with healing, Hygieia is related to disease prevention. Her Roman equivalent is Salus.
